Difference between Water Mold and Fungus (nail edition)
Updated: Sep 3, 2020

Water Mold
Water Mold is caused by Pseudomonas. Pseudomonas are bacteria that thrive in many environments including water and moist soil. Water Mold can occur when water gets trapped between the nail bed and the surface of the artificial nail. Depending on the severity of the water mold the solution is to remove your artificial nail and allow your natural nails to have exposure to air.
Fungus
Nail fungus is a common condition that begins as a white or yellow spot under the tip of your fingernail or toenail. As the fungal infection goes deeper, nail fungus may cause your nail to discolor, thicken, and crumble at the edge. A nail tech/salon will not be able to provide service to nails infected by Fungus and will refer you to visit your physician for treatment.
